About Us
The Law Firm of Sterrett Mott Breski & Shimek was founded by Attorney Laura Mott in November of 2003, and was located in the Renaissance Center at Tenth and State Streets in Erie. Over the years, Attorneys Greg Breski, Denny Sterrett, and Jay Shimek joined the Firm. Denny retired 2016.
The Firm moved to its current location on historic West Sixth Street in 2015, providing easy access and the convenience of free on-street parking to its clients.
In addition to Estate Planning and Will Probate/Estate Administration Services, the Firm also represents buyers, sellers, and lenders in purchase, sale, and refinance real estate transactions. The Firm also provides counsel to landlords and tenants in commercial lease transactions.
The Firm also represents developers, builders, residential and commercial landlords, and individual property owners in property acquisition, financing, and development, including zoning matters.
Laura J. Mott
Laura is a licensed attorney in Pennsylvania and is a principal in Sterrett Mott Breski & Shimek. She is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and the Duquesne University School of Law. She is also a licensed title agent in Pennsylvania. Laura has been practicing law for over 15 years, concentrating in Real Estate and Title Insurance matters. In addition, she is an approved attorney for a number of title companies and lenders. She is a member of the Erie County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations, the Pennsylvania Land Title Association and the Mortgage Bankers Association of Northwestern Pennsylvania. Laura has been a panelist at numerous real estate related seminars.
Laura currently resides in Millcreek Township with her husband John, and their three children.
Gregory W. Breski
Greg is a licensed title agent and attorney in Pennsylvania and is a Partner at Sterrett Mott Breski & Shimek. He was born in Steelton, Pennsylvania but has lived in the Erie area for most of his life. Greg is a graduate of Iroquois High School, Penn State Erie-The Behrend College and the Duquesne University School of Law. Prior to opening his own law practice and founding Sunrise Closing Services, LLC, with Attorney Laura Mott, Greg served as Pennsylvania State Counsel for a national title insurance underwriter. In that position, he was responsible for advising title insurance agents throughout Pennsylvania on complex legal questions regarding title clearance issues and resolving title insurance claims. In addition, he previously served on the Title Insurance Rating Bureau of Pennsylvania, the organization charged with setting policies and rates for Pennsylvania title insurance agents.
Greg is a member of the Pennsylvania and Erie County Bar Associations, the Pennsylvania Land Title Association and the Mortgage Bankers Association of Northwestern Pennsylvania. He formerly served as a President of the School Board of St. James School in Erie, and as a girl’s softball coach for the Harborcreek Little League.
Greg currently resides in Harborcreek Township with his wife Jill and their two children.
John J. "Jay" Shimek, III
Jay is a licensed attorney in Pennsylvania and is a principal in Sterrett Mott Breski & Shimek. He is a graduate of BostonCollege, earned his Masters at Gannon University and his JD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. Jay has been practicing law for over 15 years, concentrating in Real Estate and Municipal Law matters. While previously working at the Quinn Law Firm in Erie, Jay regularly closed loans through Howard Hanna Mortgage and Barristers. In addition, he is an approved attorney for a number of title companies and lenders. Jay is a member of the Erie County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations. Jay has also been a panelist at a number of real estate seminars.
